it used to be in the open
the paint chipping off the rail
the far end was a brick wall
with glass that you couldn't see through
i can't remember if we could sit

there once was chalk graffiti
and that might still be there today
but they came to enclose this place
and cover it with a sheet of blue
and add another door

a metal coat closet landed in the corner
by the brick wall was a truck battery
it became a clutter box of unnamed stuff
but below the front window
a talking box

hey pigpen, it's rubber duck
but really we thought we were bluejays
scanning the airwaves with our refrigerator ears
antenna climbing high into the sky

the box got plugged into the battery
and it was like a tv without a tube
no one had a name they were born with
like a bunch of wrong numbers without a phone
sitting at the talking box

we were broadcasting our burps and farts
for all of fox chase to hear
one voice said he could track us
and we stopped burping and farting
and the box fell silent
