wandering the trails of affgeth
the berries are abundant these days
onk is on the other side of the field
bringing water back to the caves of sathka
be careful when entering the mammoth paths
trouble lurks around the corners
stay near the group or pay the price
time to head back after a long day

the sun had set hours ago
standing atop the mount of rarg
oof stares into the celestial sphere
the cranial networks light up
and the neurons fire away
a pattern forms at the sight of an asterism
and then oof sees another one
and another, and another, and another

over here is a mammoth
over there is a muskox
and there's a sloth, and a tortoise
and a glyptotherium, and various fish
and some of them look like people
there's oga and gaz and eeg
what are they doing in the sky?
they look like the pictures in the cave

weeks later oof stared at the spots in between
and went from megafauna to smaller creatures
and objects like rocks and sticks
and seeds and berries and leaves
turning the night sky into oof's personal canvas
and they were all linked together
distant balls of hydrogen
into one giant constellation

then one night oof brought with him onk
and showed onk the asterisms
and how they lead to mammoths and sloths
and even showed him oga and gaz and eeg
onk was struggling but oof persisted
then oof led onk's eyes to the parts between
and all of the rocks and sticks and seeds
and onk said it looked like diarrhea
